Description
The first published dictionary of the Chickasaw language,
A Chickasaw Dictionary has served as an important reference guide over the years. Compiled at the behest of former Chickasaw governor Overton James, the dictionary took Vinnie May Humes and her husband, Reverend Jesse Humes, two and a half years to complete. Tragically, Jesse Humes died in 1966, just as the first draft was completed. Mrs. Humes finished the work herself, in honor of her husband.
