Description
Michelle Cooke and the Chickasaw Language Committee have worked together to create a new Chickasaw language tool in
Chickasaw Basic: Workbook I. The workbook includes five chapters complete with vocabulary, practice exercises, and tests. The text embraces both ways of writing Chickasaw words: the spelling used by Jesse and Vinnie May Humes in
A Chickasaw Dictionary, and the spelling used by Pam Munro and Catherine Willmond in
Chickasaw: An Analytical Dictionary. While the spellings are sometimes different, the meanings are the same, and neither system is preferred over the other. The student can expect to learn some basic Chickasaw vocabulary and grammar structure that will lay a foundation for future workbooks.
